In my latest works, I approach cyborg narratives by interweaving reality and fiction, hybridizing the human an non-human, the organic and the artificial worlds, crossing materials that come from opposite realities, making them dialogue to account for an unstable tension. The work invites us to reflect on the ways that body and technology interact, questioning the limits of our corporeality, shifting the axis from the human dimension, raising questions about identity.
In this symbiotic relationship between biology and technology the boundaries between organic and cybernetic entities are blurred, bringing about the possibility of a post-human existence where this new ‘subjectivity’ would materialize.
The skin is the protagonist of this narrative, a porous limit in constant mutation. It is no longer a container for the body; conversely it emerges from it, as the body fragments and fades away.
The spine acquires a dimension that ‘overflows’ the organic body becoming a kind of prosthesis in connection with the territory. This dermis does not work as a boundary but becomes alien to one’s own body; it’s a skin the ‘breathes’ in the presence of the viewer displaying a ghostly presence.
Could we imagine other ways of inhabiting the new corporeality? What would make them habitable? Perhaps it is the skin of a cyborg body, a ‘body of fiction and social reality’, as Donna Haraway has stated.
